Bridal Glam Without the Identity Crisis
Meet Make Me Up, a new Rancho Santa Fe beauty spot with a refreshing take on what bridal beauty should actually look like.
FEATURING MAKE ME UP

Somewhere along the way, bridal makeup started to feel synonymous with transformation. We see the before-and-afters, the full glam reveals and the perfectly recreated inspiration photos. And don't get us wrong, we love a beauty moment. But on your wedding day, do you really need an entirely new face?
We don't think so.
Years from now, when you look back at your wedding photos, you should recognize the woman in them. The freckles scattered across your nose or smile that pulls slightly to the left when the camera catches a candid laugh are the features that have always made you you. Because maybe the most timeless thing a bride can do isn't follow a makeup trend at all. Maybe it's simply looking like herself.
Which brings us to our latest beauty discovery: Make Me Up, new to Rancho Santa Fe.
We sat down with Lucine, a makeup artist at Make Me Up, who has spent the last decade immersed in the beauty industry, to talk about what makes makeup timeless, why your inspiration photo should only be the beginning and how brides can find that very delicate balance between feeling special and still feeling like themselves.
So, What Actually Makes Makeup Timeless?
Here's the thing about timeless makeup: it isn't necessarily less makeup.
A bride who loves a little glamour shouldn't suddenly become a clean-girl minimalist because someone told her it's “timeless.” In the same way, someone who rarely wears makeup shouldn't feel like she needs a dramatic transformation simply because she's getting married.
Timeless is personal.
For Lucine, it's about looking at what's already there.
“Timeless beauty can equate to colors that already live in your skin. It's our job to enhance it.”
She uses soft colors, intentional placement and techniques that open the eyes, creating impact without overpowering the person underneath it all.
And we love that definition because timeless beauty isn't really about predicting which trends will still look good twenty years from now. It's about creating something that feels so inherently you that it doesn't need to belong to a particular year.
You Don't Have to Become Your Inspiration Photo
The Pinterest boards have been made. The TikToks have been favorited. There is probably a dozen screenshots in your camera roll, and a separate folder titled WEDDING INSPO.
Bring it to your trial.
But don't expect to leave looking exactly like the woman in the photo. And that's a good thing.
“Taking inspiration from social media is always fun, but I always make it clear to my clients that it won't be copy-and-paste because every face is so unique. It is my job to make their features stand out in a way that suits them best.”
Instead of recreating someone else's face, the artists at Make Me Up can look at why you're drawn to a certain look. Those elements can inspire your makeup without becoming a blueprint for it.
Because your features aren't something that need to be corrected before you walk down the aisle.
They need to be celebrated.
The Bridal Trial Is Where You Figure That Out
This is exactly why Lucine believes the bridal trial matters so much.
“Nine times out of ten a bride will make certain tweaks from the first look or even completely change everything. This is why trials are so important, so the client can wear her makeup all day and really observe it.”
And we think that's the part brides sometimes forget.
Don't just look in the mirror for five minutes and decide whether you like it. Live in it.
Take photos. Step outside. Look at yourself in natural light. Go to dinner. See how you feel a few hours later.
Most importantly, ask yourself something other than Does my makeup look good?
Ask: Do I feel like myself?

A New Beauty Spot Worth Knowing
That's what made Make Me Up stand out to us.
New to Rancho Santa Fe, the studio offers brides a place to experiment with their weddingday beauty without feeling like they need to walk in knowing exactly what they want or walk out looking like somebody else.
“I want my bridal clients to feel like their best self and the most confident they've ever been. Even the most minor tweaks can make the biggest difference to their confidence.”
Sometimes that also means hearing that the look you've saved might not work exactly as imagined. Lucine believes in having that conversation kindly and suggesting another solution before the makeup ever goes on.
Because great bridal makeup isn't about how dramatic the before-and-after can be.
It's about sitting in the chair as yourself and getting back up feeling just a little more confident, a little more polished and completely ready to be photographed on a day you'll remember forever.
Maybe that's what makes beauty timeless in the first place.
You still look like you.
